If you enjoy the convenience of having pizza at home but lack the time or inclination to make homemade, the alternatives are delivery, frozen, and take-out.

Delivery commands the lion's share of the fastfood pizza market and includes local and shipped options. Local delivery has the national well-known pizza chains, which are always competing for market share and include the three most recognized - Pizza Hut, Domino's, and Papa John's. Pizza Hut was originated in Wichita, Kansas in 1958 by Frank and Dan Carney. Domino's was originated in Ypsilanti, Michigan in 1965 by Tom Monaghan. Papa John's was originated in Jeffersonville, Indiana, in 1984 by John Schnatter. Shipped options include businesses providing national ordering/delivery of their pizzas over the Internet. Two better known Chicago pizzerias offering shipped pizzas are Giordano's (Chicago stuffed crust pizza) and Lou Malnati's (Chicago deep-dish pizza).

Frozen pizza is available in a wide variety of national brands including DiGiorno, Freshcetta, Amy's, Wolfgang Puck, California Pizza Kitchen (CPK), Red Baron, Tony's, Tombstone, Totino's, Jeno's, and Safeway and Kroger house brands. DiGiorno Rising Crust Pizza has always been rated highly among frozen pizza since its introduction with rising crust. Freschetta Bakes & Rises Pizza also has a rising crust and edged out DiGiorno as best frozen pizza in the January 2002 issue of Consumer Reports. Amy's Organic Pizza was also rated highly by Consumer Reports. CPK is an upscale frozen pizza with their California-style pizza. Red Baron is popular by means of its advertising and also breakfast pizzas. Tony's Super Rise Crust Pizza is another oven-rising frozen pizza.

Take-out is defined as strictly carryout. The most well-known national take-out pizza chain is Little Caesar's. Little Caesar's was originated in Garden City, Michigan in 1959 by Mike and Marian Ilitch (history). An option to take-out is Take 'n Bake in which the raw pizza is provided for finish baking at home. Take 'n Bake was originated in Pioneer, California by Richard and Linda Goss in 1991. Nick-N-Willy's and Papa Murphy's are more well known in the Take 'n Bake category.
